New Neighborhood Association Formed Over By MOMA + Skate Jam 10/13

Dear District One,

It is with great pleasure to welcome our newest neighborhood association in the First District, the Saint Anthony Neighborhood Association (SANA). The SANA represents the District One residential and business community located between the borders of 7th Street, Alamitos Ave., Long Beach Blvd and E. 4th Street. It includes a high school and two elementary schools, a cultural museum in the Pacific Islander Ethnic Art Museum (PIEAM), the historic church parish of Saint Anthony, and is adjacent to the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA). This diverse area contains our precious children, an education hub, highest cultural icons and an established residential neighborhood. I am confident SANA will improve the overall quality of life and well-being of all within our community.

Second, the City of Long Beach has expanded its Local Preference Program to include contracts for goods and services that are awarded through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Long Beach businesses and nonprofits will now receive an additional 5 to 10 percentage points in the 100-point rating system the City uses to rank proposals. The updated program expands preference for local vendors to include all procurement methods that are used to purchase goods and services by the City and is designed to increase opportunities for Long Beach businesses and strengthen the local economy. Find more information here.

Lastly, I encourage all residents to join me tomorrow at our 4th Annual Skate Jam Turn Up & Shoe Giveaway taking place at Lincoln Park (101 Pacific Ave) from 10AM to 2PM. We are striving to disrupt the cycle of violence by partnering with community organizations to provide resources, pathways, and a fun environment that will improve the health, mental health, well-being, and economic mobility of youth in the First District. Come on out tomorrow for a resource fair, live music, free shoes & skate gear, fun activities, and so much more. I look forward to seeing you there!
