Would a paralegal certificate make me more competitive applicant? (Gap Year discussion)

Hello everyone! I’m currently a junior majoring in Journalism with an area of concentration in Criminal Justice. I’m debating on whether I should take a gap year and complete a Paralegal program before I apply to law school. Has anyone taken this route by chance? If so would you mind sharing your experience or could we talk privately? I feel divided about taking a gap year but I feel insecure with my resume as is and I want to be a competitive applicant.
