Detergent Options

I see a lot of ads saying not to buy liquid detergent because of the obscene amount of plastic with the packaging, so I started buying pods but then I learned that the pods are plastic, so they're bad too. So then I buy sheets which are okay.

Then I remembered that I used to buy boxes of powdered detergent which don't use plastic and seem to work fine. Can't we just go back to the powder? Why all this fuss?

Edit: Another plus-the powder allows me to regulate the amount of detergent I put in each load.
