K-pop As A Music Genre Cannot Be "Too Westernised"
This is a foolish take that I've seen too many people state, and act like they're making complete groundbreaking sense/have an actual productive opinion to talk about.
K-pop as a genre from inception, was created as an inspiration from western music as a goal of increasing soft power and spreading Korean culture at a global scale, and they succeeded.
It's seems they've done it too well, as some goofballs state that "westernised" talking point as if K-pop is a completely original Korean concept. I think by now this narrative should've been dead.
All I've seen is this take being used by antis as a dig at popular groups that try their hand at expanding their global fanbase, which should be seen as a smart move by any normal person.
It's also a glass house that fetishizers and racists hide behind if they wanna express their dismay at non East Asian people becoming idols, not forgetting the odd hatred for English releases.
At this point, if I ever see this talking point, the only thing I automatically do is ignore or mute/block because of how unserious I find it. There are valid criticisms to make, but this ain't one.
