Hot Take: The Joker shouldn't have been about the Joker.

In my view, the first Joker film should not have been about the Joker. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Martin Scorsese declined to make the film because he wasn’t interested in directing superhero movies. As evident from watching it, the Joker in the film has very little in common with the comic book character. The story bears far more resemblance to The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver than to any of the comics. Scorsese would have been the perfect choice as director.
