Is it wrong to lie on my application?

I'm currently applying for an internship and it's asking questions like "tell us a time you had to defend a decision you made" and "describe a time you worked with someone from a different background as you and how it affected your project". I kind of made up stories for those questions because I wasn't sure what else to put under those questions and I dont think I'd have a strong chance of getting in otherwise. They're not big lies, just smudging of the truth, but I feel like if I have to lie, maybe I don't deserve to get in?
