Is clonazepam safe? I'm really anxious about taking it.
Hey everyone, I’ve been dealing with insomnia for as long as I can remember, but recently it’s gotten much worse. It’s been so bad that I finally decided to see a doctor. Going to a doctor here is a frustrating and cumbersome process, so I generally avoid it unless it’s absolutely necessary.
The doctor prescribed me melatonin to help with my sleep issues, and if that doesn’t work, she also prescribed clonazepam as a backup. I’ve never tried either medication before, but I really doubt that melatonin will be effective for my severe insomnia. I have a feeling I’ll end up needing the clonazepam.
My concern is about the safety of clonazepam. It’s a benzos, and I know that they don't have the best reputation. I’m really worried about becoming dependent on it (assuming if melatonin doesn’t work).
Was it irresponsible for the doctor to prescribe clonazepam as an alternative, over other safer options? Will it be fine if I have a control over my intake? And assuming if it works, what should I do once, I'm finished with the medication, since it's not considered safe for long term.
I'm sorry if I'm sounding too paranoid or uninformed but I am not used to visiting doctors, especially independently as an adult but given the state of healthcare here, it's best to stay vigilant (For context, after having to wait for 2 hours, the whole appointment only lasted about five minutes, followed by a blood test).
Thank you.
