The sim breaks completely with night rain and hdr
Sorry for the long video and for the side overlays I used obs to record it. It’s just a slow lap of Daytona at night with rain and the HDR setting turned on. Track is undrivable, pitch black in many areas. This is a problem on all tracks at night in the rain. It more or less feels like driving with no headlights, and high beams doesn’t help.
I Reached out to iRacing support about this last season before petite lemons and the issue is still a thing going into d24 where there is a chance of rain projected from 8pm-11pm.
This is not a monitor HDR issue, this is the bottom right HDR setting. Last season iRacing support explained the HDR setting is not your monitor’s dynamic range but the games lighting engine for things like bloom and specular lighting, and it seems in this seasons build it is basically all lighting post processing effects since turning it off makes the sim (game) look like a Roblox racer. Again this is not a problem with the monitor running in HDR (if you look next to your resolution it shows HDR there separate from the broken lighting system).
I highly doubt they’ll be able to fix this before the race next weekend, I’m unsure why this wasn’t looked into months ago when I brought it up then. Far as I see it the only real option is for iRacing to remove the chance of rain at night. “Just turn off HDR” is not a valid solution to this problem as a significant portion of the community that will participate in this special event is not on Reddit reading random threads. I guess they could issue a notice in the UI or something.
