Is there anyone with symptoms identical to mine?

Hello,

My hyperacusis has been preventing me from living for 9 years and I still have no idea of its original cause (never had an acoustic trauma). Having quite extreme sensitivity and not being able to do an MRI because of that, I am stuck and I would have liked to present my symptoms to you to possibly be able to make a connection if some of you have similar or identical symptoms and perhaps help me in my quest to discover the origin of my problem.

Little presentation: I am 34 years old and started having tinnitus at the age of 11, then hyperacusis appeared little by little from around 13 years old. My condition was embarrassing, obviously, but quite stable and I could lead an almost normal life. At the age of 25, my condition worsened significantly overnight, for no apparent reason.

I am was a musician so I was certainly exposed to noise until I was 25 but I always wore hearing protection (and the tinnitus appeared before I started). I had barely played for years before my condition really deteriorated.

My symptoms:

  • Very high-pitched bilateral tinnitus, very reactive to the slightest sound.

  • Second tinnitus in the left ear 75% of the time, a fluctuating, non-linear kind of noise. It sounds a bit like someone randomly hitting a synthesizer note (sometimes prolonged sounds sometimes notes, something like: TUU…TU..TUUUUU;TU..TU…TUUUUUUU). Oddly this sound stops if I cover my ear.

  • Severe hyperacusis, no physical pain but the sounds make all my other symptoms explode. Some are at 45db starting to bother me and I can't stand anything above 65db.

  • Sensation of blocked ears as soon as I hear too loud a noise

  • The sound perceived via osteopheony bothers me just as much or even more. Hearing protection increases this discomfort tenfold, which is very annoying.

  • Crunching heard in the ear when swallowing

  • Ears that become blocked with changes in atmospheric pressure (just a short drive down the road causes this for me).

  • I find it very difficult to bear making sudden movements with my head (for example miming yes or no). It doesn't hurt me strictly speaking but it really bothers me, a very unpleasant feeling in the brain.

  • Certain sounds that I shouldn't even hear are unbearable to me (ultrasonic devices against pigeons for example)

  • I don't know if it can be related but I feel a real decline in my mental/cognitive abilities. And I'm generally exhausted.

Relevant or not, some background:

-Viral meningitis at 10 years old (i.e. 1 year before tinnitus appears)

  • Misophonia since I was 7 or 8 years old

  • I have been naturally stressed and anxious since I was very young, and certain deteriorations in my condition may possibly coincide with difficult periods at this level.

Thanks to those who have read this far. Not speaking English very well and not knowing much jargon I used googletrad so forgive me if this all seems strangely written.

If you have any ideas, or similar symptoms, do not hesitate to share your knowledge with me, it will be greatly appreciated!
