Moving HVAC 5ft
Hello All,
Looking to get the group’s input/expertise on how difficult and expensive it would be to move our HVAC unit about 5ft.
Our home is on a lot that slopes towards the back, so that the first floor is an ADU (my mother-in-law’s space) with access to the backyard and the other half of the first floor is a traditional basement. There is a set of stairs that connects the house to the ADU, but to access the basement we must go through the ADU. A potential solution is to add a door at the base of the stairs that goes into the basement, but our HVAC unit is directly on the other side of the wall where we’d put the door.
In the picture you can see the HVAC unit and the door on the right, which goes into the ADU. The second picture is our thought of moving the HVAC in front of the current for (crossed in red) and the proposed new door (in yellow)
I’ve done some research online and have read varying cost to move a unit, from a few thousand dollars to over 10K. We plan on getting quotes, but looking for an initial gut check to determine if it’s even worth it.
Any and all insights are appreciated!
