Are college career fairs worth it for recruiting interns? [N/A]

So my company is currently looking at attending some college career fairs to recruit interns for next summer.

On the one hand, the managers who want to go have had some success in the past. On the other hand, even by their own admission, they don’t usually get more than 20-25 resumes and only one intern a year, if that, is someone they actually talked to at a career fair.

Their logic is that by attending the career fairs, we get visibility from students who later apply online.

Our director of finance is struggling to agree to the travel and hotel costs given that the interns almost never turn into year round employees. However there’s an argument that as a mostly seasonal hospitality business, that’s not really the goal.

I recognize that the cost of attending career fairs is low, relatively speaking. But there’s a lot of pressure from the board to not be over budget this year.

Has anyone had good luck at college career fairs or otherwise find attending them useful? Bonus points if you work in hospitality
