Midlevel encroachment in hospital medicine

Hi all, M4 here just thinking about job security for the future. My ideal career is being a hospitalist at an urban academic medical center (I know, low pay, but this is the setting I would enjoy most as I love teaching and big city life). A lot of non-hospitalists have advised me to sub-specialize mainly because of the direction they believe healthcare will go in the future in terms of midlevels. As hospitalists, do you think there’ll be increased utilization of NPs and PAs in hospital medicine and thus less job opportunities for hospitalist physicians? How secure is hospital medicine from midlevel encroachment in the years to come. I’ve been told specialists are less likely to experience midlevel encroachment compared to generalists. How true is this?
