Im currently playing through the story but im feeling a bit lost

So i originally only played other hoyo games like genshin and starrail and when people talked about characters like welt or now phainon i felt like im missing out, which is why i finally decided to finally play Honkai Impact 3rd. I just finished the "The forgotten" chronicles and while i really enjoyed it, i feel like i have missed out on things or dont unterstand everything, even though there arent any points that i felt lost about. Im following the Hoyo stans guide from the start and did everything in order so far. I also really liked second eruption, but i always had that feeling of lostness while reading. So im sorry if i may be stupid but could you tell me if id did something wrong, or if this is intended and it will get clearer when i continue playing/reading?
