How To Minimize Tank Loses

I am playing as Britain right now and I am invading Italy. I've captured most of the country at this point including Rome. I just checked my equipment stockpile and I've realized my tank loses are absolutely atrocious. 13k deficit in total, each divisions has about a third of the maximum light tanks. My question is how do I minimize these loses and what do I use to push in Italy if not light tanks and motorized?
