Early bidding wars in auctions

I’ve noticed that cards listed by consignment companies on eBay tend to attract a lot of early action which other sellers do not typically see. A card I have been after for a while just got listed, and sure enough: After 12 hours of a seven day auction (mostly during the night for the main market) you have four bidders battling it out and a high price already (more than half of last comp).

Obviously the consignment companies are able to attract a lot of eyes which other sellers are perhaps unable to fully attract. But can you help me understand why several bidders would deem it to be a good idea to get into a bidding war so early in an auction? It doesn’t seem to make much sense to me 🤷‍♂️
