Question?
Do you all think the reason Dumbledore beat Grindelwald in their duel is because Grindelwald did love Albus? (I’ve seen many claim the relationship was one sided and Gellert was simply using Albus but didn’t love him back.) As we know the Elder Wand supposedly can’t lose a duel for its master… so I’m curious- what if when Albus faced Gellert in their legendary duel, Gellert’s heart wasn’t in the fight? The two loved each other, they had a bad breakup in their relationship but that relationship remained complicated till the very end. Albus wanted to defeat Gellert, not kill him bit apprehend him… his heart was no doubt breaking but my theory is that the only reason Gellert lost the duel is because the wand knew he didn’t want to hurt Albus any more than Albus wanted to hurt him; and possibly… at the end of the day, Albus was the better dueler… so combine those two facts together and I think that explains how the unbeatable wand was beaten- Albus didn’t conquer the wand that day, he had long since conquered Gellert’s heart and the two men couldn’t bare to face one another.
What are your thoughts tho? Do you think this adds up, that it was due to Gellert’s heart not being in the fight and his resistance to hurt Albus that allows for him to lose? Or do you think something else played a part in his downfall to Dumbledore? Side note- Rita claimed that Gellert simply threw up the white flag in their fight, but that is likely a lie knowing her (or at the very least a twisted version of the truth) and I think that sort of supports my idea even if it IS true.
