Confusion about Episode 52 (Low Authority Site Outranking High Authority Site)

I’m very confused, and I mean no disrespect as I’m extremely new to SEO so I understand I could be wrong here so any correction would be much appreciated. 

Im watching Episode 52 of your podcast where you basically made a response video to a reddit comment where someone was showing that a site with a Low DR and “poor” backlink profile was outranking a site with better DR and better backlinks.

The example sites were Prydwen and PocketGamer for reference.

In the comment that the Redditor originally made, he said that Prydwen has a DR of 38, and PocketGamer has a DR of 77” I also just checked on Ahrefs (which you said you used to do this check) and Ahrefs shows Prywden today has a DR of 41 and PocketGamer has a DR of 77, which pretty much matches with what the original Redditors results are, so both I and the original Redditor got basically the same results when doing this check but your check seems to have gotten completely opposite results. (You said Prydwen has a DR of 50/60 and Pocketgamer has a DR of 18)

I also checked on Semrush to be sure and Semrush also shows that Pocketgamer has a higher authority than Prydwen (contrary to your results)

I understand that these sites use just estimates and are not accurate to exactly what Google is using, so I know they could have it wrong, but as you used this as the basis of your argument, I just want some clarity.

You said that Prydwen may have less backlinks to that specific page in question, but they have a higher DR which you said is about 50/60 and then you said that Pocketgamer has more backlinks to their specific page but they have a lower DR of 18. 

At 11:56, you also state that the linking page for Prydwen has a UR of 3.3 and that PocketGamer has a UR of 1. You then followed to highlight that the “UR is better on the linking pages for Prywden, so it makes perfect sense why Prydwen will rank better even though it has fewer backlinks” But when I went to do an Ahrefs check, they both actually have a UR of 10 from what I found.

You used all this data to explain why Prydwen is ranking higher, but the data used to form your argument doesn’t seem to be accurate based on the data that I found and the data that the original Redditor found.

You made the statement at 13:01 that “Prydwen has fewer backlinks, but they are better backlinks, and I went through and I explained how that was the case” but after watching the video, I don’t feel as though it was explained to me how exactly Prydwen’s backlinks we’re better. From using the data you used - DR and UR - it seems the opposite is true. 

As I say I am very new to SEO so I could be inaccurate here, but I just want some clarification as Im watching your episode 52 and struggling to make sense of this particular point. Thanks for taking the time to read and I appreciate any feedback.
