Irons with black finish

Titleist just released all of their T series line in a black finish and the Mizuno JPX 925 forged is being released with a black onyx finish.

Wondering if anybody has experience with the durability of these darker finishes? I love the look and I always buy wedged with the black finish, but I'm concerned how long the finish will hold up. I hit year round and in the winter here in the Midwest that means exclusively off of mats. Will constantly hitting my 6 iron off mats in the winter quickly wear the finish? Does anybody have any tricks for protecting the club on mats (tape, specially designed sole protectors, etc)? I have a good idea that when I go to get fit for new irons next week that I'll end up in the JPX 925 forged, but I want these irons to last me the next 7-10 years. TIA
