What are the ticks like in your area?

Hi All

I know this sounds stupid, but my wife and I are starting to look at potential retirement places in the U.S. and since we will always have goldens, we are interested in places where we won't have to do tick checks every time we take them outside. We like to go on long walks and hikes through scenic areas nearby. I realize that ticks vary by season, and are worse when you go out in wooded areas. Just trying to get a sense if there are parts of the country where you live and find they aren't as much of a nuisance for a good part of the year.
