How do you train the food UNmotivated golden?
Still new to this dog training thing. Basically we’ve had some of the natural age-related regressions with our 18mo male golden boy, specifically when we’re out in public. He gets so excited about everything he’s seeing (we live in a busy city) that even if he sometimes correctly responds to recall, sitting, etc, and we offer him a high-incentive treat for it, he’s too overstimulated to care, and spits out the treat / acts like it was never there.
This is incredibly frustrating. As I understand it, many goldens tend to be food motivated but apparently he’s an outlier (also incredibly picky with occasional variety of treats at home) and we really need a solid way to get his attention & reward him when he responds until it’s consistent obedience.
Open to any words of wisdom. Enjoy the puppy tax selfie. :)
