Games with good world building and possibly fighting?

I wanna start this by saying I mainly only play visual novels and otome games, so I havent played much of anything OUT of that realm. I'm in a class where we write narrative for games, and I'd like to broaden my horizons, if you get what I mean.

I've played some Wolfenstien games (The Old Blood, The New Order, and The New Colossus.) And i enjoyed to bits of story mixed with "levels" and the semi open world play. (Not sure how you'd describe it.)

I'm really up for anything as long as if has a good story and nice fighting mechanics. (FPS, I think it's called?)

Doesn't need to be obscure or anything. Even games that you know video game nerds have played would be nice, I have NO clue what my classmates are talking about 90% of the time.
