Brienne and her terrible decision.
I read the books and now I'm rewatching. I've never seen season 8 and I'm debating about finally finishing.
So I'm on the season finale of season 4 and Brienne just found Arya and the Hound. I just can't help wondering wtf she was thinking during this scene. This has to be one of the dumbest things she does in the show.
She finds Arya, she sees she's safe, unharmed, roaming around freely, and clearly trusts Sandor Clegane. This man kept her safe in a world that is absolutely not safe, especially for her. There's no one left to ransom her to, everyone is dead, her home is invaded and burnt to the ground. She's a walking liability, yet he is still willing to defend her with his life.
Brienne wants to keep her vow to Catelyn. So what does Big Brain Brienne do? She decides to say she's basically going to kidnap Arya, with absolutely no plan whatsoever, without even trying to speak to them or earn their trust. The Hound straight up asks "where's safe?" Her family is dead, her home is gone, and now Brienne shows up wearing Lannister gold, talking about getting help from Jamie Lannister, and thinks killing the man who's been protecting her, whom she trusts, and kidnapping her to go... somewhere, is a good idea??
How did she think this would work? She could have tried to gain their trust. Tried to come up with a plan, find somewhere safe to go. But no, she risks her life, and the life of the only other person helping Arya, to do what?? She didn't even try to actually talk to them really. She's just like "No, I'm taking her!"
It's just such a shit idea and I'm so glad this didn't happen in the books. Wtf were they thinking writing this? I know they love to make Brienne look like a noble bad ass, and she is, but this just makes her look stupid, and gives Arya every reason to run away from her, which completely defeats the point.
