About XIVAlexander

So i've been told of the existence of this thing by some friends who play the game, but don't use it, so i wondered how is the community perception of this? And is it more or less the same thing as, say, UI addons where you just don't talk about it and it's chill or is it riskier? As it happens the 3 classes that i liked the most are, apparently, a pain to play on 200 ping.
