Should they just combine Casual and Ranked Crystalline Conflict queues.. and not tell the Casuals?

I enjoy FFXIV PvP. Like a sicko, I ignore how terrible the netcode and balance is to queue for Frontlines every day. I've also started to play more Crystalline Conflict recently after my break from grinding ranked during the first couple of seasons.

Problem is, ranked is currently dead on my DC (Primal), at least for bronze or silver or whatever my rank is now. The thing is, I don't care about hitting crystal anymore. I just want somewhat competitive games. Casual is popping throughout primetime.. because all kinds of people are queueing for it. 4~5 digit damage, 0 HP restored, the worst Samurais and Paladins you've ever seen, (you don't) want it, Casual CC has it

Basically, what's happening to NA because of data center travel is happening to CC. Nobody queues for (low) Ranked, so everyone goes to Casual, then everyone insterested in improvement frequently has a terrible experience because victory is decided by which team has less players who have no idea what they're doing. The euphoria from a straight crystal push win is fleeting, my friends.

So what if we give (Casual) queuers the illusion of free choice instead? You still pick either Casual or Ranked on the Duty Finder, then mash that join button. Except whatever you choose, it puts you into Ranked queue based on your rank anyway. But Casuals won't see any of it. They won't see the ranks below player portraits, the gaining or losing of rising stars, etc. All UI elements that allude to rank will be hidden even as the processes still happen.

Over time, the more serious players will theoretically receive more games where the winner isn't decided by which side doesn't have the player(s) who didn't edit their PvP hotbar. And the casual Casual players will find more games where they can take things at their own pace without getting rolled instantly.

So would there be any major downsides if they implemented this and included it as a note in a major patch? I suppose it becomes harder for tryhards to learn how new jobs play in a 5v5 environment while preserving rank, but I don't know if that's something to be given a lot of weight versus the declining state of CC. Thoughts? Other fundamental solutions to ranked's death?
