Getting a research position

Hello everyone. IM PGY-3 here set to graduate this June, didn't match to Haem-Onc unfortunately. People have been giving me advice to do a 'research year' in a research position- how does one go about getting one of those? I tried looking and couldn't really find anything- and would that help out with matching into Haem-Onc in the future?
