My preference is usually like 1,000 pages of smut per book. Jade City has less than half a page, but it has me by the throat.

Alright, 1,000 pages of pure smut would be too much even for me, but when I read I definitely prefer to have a healthy balance of both fantasy, smut, and romance.

Fantasy keeps me interested in books, and the romance/smut are like the little golden coins I get paid along the way, usually after 300 hard earned pages of world building.

All together, Jade City has about a page and a half of spice and a single, little tiny sprinkle of romance.

Hell, it’s barely even fantasy. It’s basically just the Godfather on steroids.

But somehow Fonda Lee has given me the ABSOLUTE BARE FUCKING MINIMUM in both of my usual “must have” categories and I cannot stop thinking about it.🥵🥵🥵

The story, characterization, and writing are SO GOOD in this book that somehow Lee is keeping the romance goblin in me well fed using literally only half a crumb and Kaul Hilo’s raw BDE. (Big Dick Energy)

Whenever Hilo is on the scene, he brings in all the aura and authority and slight himbo energy that I love in my fictional husbands… and I pretty much immediately fold.🥵

Lan is also so fine as fuck, as proven above by his fanart, but he’s making me mad rn, so no shoutout for him.
