Y'all miss-sold Fourth Wing to me!
So, 5 days ago I finished reading When the Moon Hatched, and I was utterly broken by that book. I'm not often prone to the book hangover, but I needed some fluff to recover from this. I came here asking for suggestions.
I read a couple of short and sweet stories in the couple of days that followed, but I was still hung up on Raeve and Kaan. So I asked again, this time asking which, if any, of the books I already had on my TBR would give me the best instant gratification fluff and spice.
You lot all pointed me at {Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros}.
In all honesty, I've been avoiding Fourth Wing for months, because it's always mentioned in the same breath as ACOTAR, and I found that to be eminently forgettable (literally, I forgot if read it). But I figured, I've already got it downloaded, might as well give it a go...
Now, you lot don't know me, so you couldn't know just what this book would mean to me.
My little queer, zebra, heart, with undefinable, but visible, Asian heritage, was not prepared for the incredible way this book showcases intersectionality, with such casual references to skin colour, hair type, sexuality, and even gender identity, as well as a main character with the same chronic health condition that I have!
On top of that, the story is brilliant, the characters are well developed, the world building is great, and the writing style is exactly my cup of tea.
It was most definitely not just "fluff and spice"!!!
From now on, this will be my go-to for introducing new readers to the genre.
However, now I have to go download the next in the series, probably devour that in less than 3 days as well, and then be itching for the release of the next book for another month!
