Just found out a brother in my congregation was a black panther member
We were doing lettering writing in the Kingdom Hall when a familiar brother greets everyone and starts yapping.
He was telling stories of his childhood and living in New York, the racism he and his friends experienced. Then he tells stories about him being apart of the black panther party. I was in shock because I never thought in my lifetime I'd ever meet anyone from the party. I only beelived him when he showed us pictures of younger him. He even knew tupacs mom. I just... He said the injustice bothered him, specifically racism which is why he joined. He saw it fall through because of undercover spies and ended up leaving after that. Which he says "everyone was dead or in prison". The reason he came to this organization was because of injustice!! He felt that Jehovah was the fix towards injustice. Only God can undo justice permanently and it wasn't man's to fight. And now defends cops!! They're just doing their job??? I was so disappointed and disgusted in the moment. I just couldn't believe a black man who was a part of something that was revolutionary and life changing for so many. The black panther party is one of the main inspirations for me, especially as a black person thaf got me into socialism and social justice (one of the things anyways). I met someone who was a part of something so important to in black history just for them to become a JW. It's still so hard for me believe.
