Foreign exchange student idea, would it work?
Hi! Im a freshman in High School and always wanted to live in Japan since I was extremely young. Because of this I want to become a foreign exchange student from the USA to Japan starting next year when im 15. However I have a problem, I am unable to stay more than a year in Japan or even go back after doing a foreign exchange student program. So, I came up with a solution and I want somebody’s opinion. If I were able to I could possibly go to Japan when im 16 and stay with either my former host family or another friend and have them be my technical guardian (without the program). All of this happens with my parent’s permission btw. Anyhow, I then could stay in Japan on a visa until im old enough to move out and go to college, so like a year or two. Crazy idea, right? I know it does have some holes missing in the plan, but it doesn’t sound impossible. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for this, and does anyone think ill actually be able to do it? I honestly think the main problem would be the visa part or finding someone to stay with, but I think I can figure something out with a little bit of research. Thanks for reading!
