Development on the Ethereum Network

Hello All,

I am currently a graduate student in the midst of composing a thesis/project on implementing blockchain within organizations for the purpose of providing an alternative or enhancement to cyber security measures/procedures. I am aiming to develop a prototype blockchain to present as a part of the project. I have several questions regarding development on the platform but to be honest, I'm not quite sure where to start. I wanted to post here to hopefully receive feedback regarding where to start. This may be a total shot in the dark but I would greatly appreciate any advice that you all could offer.
