How to wire LED strip into my car

Hi, my car has an power supply of 12v & 105 amps from the battery and 5-10 amps from the cigarette lighter. I have an LED power box that steps wall outlet voltage down from 120v and 5amps to 12v and .4 amps to power the led strip. Can I bypass the power box and wire the LED directly to the electrical system in my car without increasing spark and fire hazard risks? How can I educate myself more on these types of connections and matching power supply to power requirements?
