Michigan - Restricted License w/ IID - Major Violation
Oh man, it’s funny the way things work.
I have had my restricted license with the IID since May of this year. Everything has went perfectly fine until last week.
Work has been very stressful and I’ve had a lot going on. Last week, we got a decent snow storm and it was like 15 degrees out Thursday morning. I started my car with intentions of just running inside gathering my work things and running back out to head to work. I somehow allowed time to get away from me and was inside for about 10 minutes (checked my ring camera).
I ended up missing a rolling retest, which is a major violation, and my SOS order states this would lead to an automatic reinstatement of my revocation.
When I got into my car, it showed the VioLock 4 day countdown but was still asking for me to test (I use Smart Start). I took the test and passed then headed to work.
Just smh at myself because I never leave my car running like that and I also knew the consequences of missing a rolling re-test and still made the decision to leave it running. I think a lot of it had to do with the stress I am under so I was not quite thinking straight but this is now just going to add to that stress.
I ended up sending a statement over to SOS if the situation and I was just upfront about what happened and said I wouldn’t make the mistake again. I also requested a report from Smart Start because I assume I will have to request a hearing to appeal this violation.
I am just wondering if anything similar has happened to anyone else? I also am curious if this resets the year, pushing the possibility to get my full license back out even further. I was told when I spoke to hearing office at SOS that I would get a letter in the mail saying my license is revoked.
Just whacky. I’ve maintained sobriety since October 2021, and it would feel kinda crappy for this to be the reason my license is revoked after I’ve made it this far.
