[Discussion] Story/rant of how my parents didn’t listen now their dog is paying the price.

This is going to be a semi long post so hold on tight...

In 2016 my parents decided it was a good idea to get a St. Bernard x Great Dane puppy. My dad had always wanted a large dog & since my mom stays home most days, they decided it was time.

Soon, Dozer (the dog) started growing and growing, getting larger every day. They never socialized him (can you see where this story is going?) to other dogs besides the ones in their home or took him to obedience classes.

One evening, a small dog from who knows where wandered into their yard while Dozer was out. He chased the other dog, picked it up and threw it. Small dog escaped his wrath. A week later, he tried to bite my mom when she was asking him to get out of her chair. Dozer was about a year and a half old at this point. Another night, my little brother tried to take trash from Dozer, Dozer bit my little brothers arm. My mom became scared of Dozer but couldn’t afford obedience classes so I shelled out $250 of my own money to pay for 12 weeks of training. They made it through basic commands & my mom decided it was enough. They were never able to be around other dogs bc he would bark and act aggressive, my mom still didn’t have enough control to be in a class with others.

About 2mo ago my mom had Dozer outside, our elderly neighbor was walking his small dog down the road as he does most evenings. Dozer charged towards the other dog, which started running around the guys legs causing him to fall into the road. My mom managed to catch Dozer and drag him back to the house before he was able to get the other dog. Dad came home that evening and put up a run in the backyard and front yard, vowing he had to be on the runs or be outside leashes...

Last night around 11:30pm, my mom let Dozer outside not on the run OR on a leash. The neighbors (this time the wife) was outside walking the small dog (LEASHED) again... Dozer saw them, charged the dog and TORE IT UP. Not only did he severely injure the other dog, he bit the owner... as of now, the small dog is in not so great conditions and was obviously rushed to the emergency vet last night.

My parents are NOW feeling guilty for his behavior. I cannot begin to say how many times I WARNED them something like this was going to happen... told them they could be sued if he hurt/killed somebody or their dog. Told them they needed to continue dog training classes, that he was brought into our home at the wrong time since he was supposed to be my dads dog & my dad works constantly.. I tried SO HARD to help prevent this from happening.

Tonight, we say good bye to Dozer. The big silly, goofy, who sings to certain commercials and openings for shows on the TV, who loves to snuggle on the couch and gets so excited to see people that he destroys everything with his tail. We say good bye to the dog who didn’t stand a chance due to irresponsible pet owners who happen to be my parents. Allllll of this could’ve been prevented, ALL OF IT, had my parents taken the necessary steps.

My heart is broken, I’m sad, I’m pissed off at my parents, I’m pissed they didn’t do everything they could to prevent it. Now Dozer is paying the price, they’re responsible for an ER vet bill they can’t afford as they’re already in debt up to their ears.

This post is more of a vent but I wanted people to be able to comment. I hope this reaches somebody and makes the realize how truly dangerous, life changing & horrendous it is to have a dog aggressive dog and not take all steps to avoid situations like this. If you’ve made it this far - thank you so much for taking the time to read it. I’m heading to my parents now to love on Dozer and give him all the treats in the house.
