Am I wasting my time?

Hello, I have a bit of an issue. I would like to apply for an upcoming degree apprenticeship in material engineering at a leading company. However, the entry criteria for the job requires >96 ucas points, which I achieve as I have an extended BTEC diploma in material engineering with a d* d* d* giving me 168 points, but due to certain circumstances in my earlier studies, I don't have the 5 GCses at a 4 or above. I only have 3 GCses, of which 2 are "equivalents" in L2 functional skills in maths and english (grade 4 equivalent), and I have a GCSE in CS at a grade 5, so am I wasting my time in even applying for these and should I get the other 2 GCses or just apply for a lower level apprenticeship? Thanks
