Should I get a Mullet?

This is what my natural hair looks like, post CGM. I don’t focus too much on frizz control, and don’t do anything specific to style it besides scrunching & squish to condish.

I’ve been wanting to experiment with my haircut. I usually go for long layers & face framing, but I’ve been considering getting a more choppy, mullet-ish look. Nothing too short or extreme, but definitely going shorter on the sides and getting choppy bangs.

I’m not sure if my hair type would be able to carry such a style without looking like a mess, if I don’t spend hours styling it. A lot of people have told me that those choppy cuts only look good when heat styled. I’ve spent a long time trying to care for and embrace my curls, and my hair grows super slowly. I don’t want to mess it up just because i’m bored.

Does anyone have any advice or experience on this? I can share better photos if needed.

I’m also sharing my current routine :

Step 1 : Any drugstore local brand clarifying shampoo, I prefer Dove or Nile. (I use sulphate clarifying shampoos every time I wash my hair, i’ve found that it does wonders for my oily scalp & gives me superb volume)

Step 2 : Sugarboo curls protein mask (I’ve recently bleached the shit out of my hair & apart from regular salon olaplex treatments, I’ve been deep conditioning my hair once a week with this protein mask)

I leave the mask on for 30-60 minutes & squish to condish. Sometimes I get bored while waiting, so I sort of ‘twirl’ my clumps with my finger in the natural direction of my curl, to style them.

Step 3 : Curl Up Leave in Conditioner on drenched hair, right out of the shower & Scrunching to get the excess water out. Then I scrunch with my towel a few times until it’s damp but not dripping, and apply another round of leave in by scrunching.

Step 4 : Curl Up Hair Gel , this is a hard hold gel and my curls last 4-5 days, 7 if I protect them well. Again, scrunching upside down.

Step 5 : Diffuse using heat & SOTC with morrocan oil serum

I do all of this upside down, needless to say my back is very unhappy by the end of this. But my my, would you look at those bouncy juicy curls 😍
