how many times between washes do u rewet and restyle your hair?

for some reason for the longest time it did not occur to me that in-between washes i can just rewet my hair?? I spent long years thinking that I just have to deal with whatever's currently on my head till the next time I wash my hair, and I do that quite rarely, give or take once a week. so, how many times do you rewet and restyle your hair between washes? how much product do u use each time? doesn't doing that too often weigh down the hair because of the piling layers of products?
