Questions about the breed

I’m getting to know my elderly mother’s American Cocker. I moved in to help care for Mom and have practically adopted sweet Sammy. What can you tell me about the breed? He’s 6 so is there any hope of changing bad behaviors? What kind of activities are good for this breed? I’m a Boston Terrier Mom and am finding their personalities quite different.
