Trying to figure out if classic is for me

I’ve played the modern wow a bit and I love mmo games so is there anything like very different about classic as opposed to modern? Is it more beginner friendly on one over the other ? The price of classic is was is bringing me to it and the fact that I’ve never got to experience it as it came out would I be at a disadvantage in the game cause that ? lol any advice or suggestions would nice
