Has anyone tried supercommuting to avoid NYC crime?

Hi my fellow New Yorkers!

Well, I’m not a New Yorker yet, but I recently got accepted for a financial analyst position at a midsize firm on the Street. I’ll let you guess which one. Hint: Wall Street.

Anyhow, I told my grandparents about the position and they warned me about something called hate crimes. As a soon-to-be wealthy and already handsome white male, they are worried I will be hated and then crimed on by people who envy who I am and what I have.

They have kindly offered to let me stay at their home in Altoona, PA, where neighbors are friends and friends are family. I know it’s a long commute into the city, but I’m being told it’s better to drive ten hours per day than be killed to death. What should I do?
