Resection vs Ablation
Obligatory I’m on mobile so apologies for lack of formatting, etc
Hey all, I’m working on getting sterilized via a hysterectomy, and the OBGYN I visited (one of the ones from the list in the wiki) kept pushing me towards a “resection ablation” because it’s more difficult to get insurance to cover a hysterectomy. Now I would be fine if it was a HERS (Hysteroscopic Endometrial Resection for Sterilization) procedure, but it didn’t seem like that’s what he was talking about. So I asked him, “okay, from my understanding, a resection is where the uterine lining is surgically removed and an ablation is when the uterine lining is burned to create scar tissue and prevent bleeding. Am I correct in these definitions or is there something I’m missing?” Instead of answering my question with a confirmation or denial, he launched into an explanation of the history of ablations and why they were invented.
So now I’m turning to you guys- are my definitions correct, or am I missing something from my definitions? I have appointments with some other doctors lined up in the following few weeks and will ask them this question, but I wanted to ask here as well from this community. Thanks in advance for the help and responses!
