Risks of long term antibiotics?
I have severe MECFS (bedridden except for going to bathroom, mostly listen to podcasts all day with eyes closed) and I have had some positive test results for long term Bartonella and Lyme. My doc and I have talked about doing some longish-term oral antibiotics (probably alternating doxy + azithro with clarithro + rifampin) altho we’ve had some delays due to treating other comorbidities plus I have to switch doctors soon so it’s all a little complicated.
Anyway I have heard/read people saying that they have seen “disasters” / horror stories or whatever from MECFS patients using long term antibiotics for tick borne stuff. But I don’t really have a sense of what those disasters entail so it’s hard for me to gauge what the risks are. As far as gut biome I think mine is already pretty shot inasmuch as I’ve tried probably five SIBO treatment protocols and my test results are always off the charts. But yeah I’m just wondering if people have a sense of what the bad outcomes can be— especially if it can eg make one’s MECFS symptom level significantly more severe etc.
Thanks!
