Recipe for Kitten food (Homemade)
Hi all.
I'm the very proud owner of 2 babies (4, 4.5 months) and I was giving them wet food only. I am now switching to a BARF diet but, in order to avoid possible issues, I'm cooking it in Sous Vide, slowly at lower temps to keep the most nutrients possible.
I have been reading non-stop about all the possible meat combinations and supplements and I made a recipe that they really, really love.
I am using chat gpt for easiness of recipe control, not as a source of knowledge, and I came up with the following recipe for a 14 day batch, for 2 kittens:
Ingredient | Amount (grams) | Notes |
---|---|---|
Boneless Chicken Thighs | 4,200g | Main muscle meat source, provides protein and fat for growth, no calcium from bones. |
Chicken Liver | 350g | Provides Vitamin A, essential for kitten growth and immune function. |
Chicken Hearts | 700g | High in taurine, supports heart and eye health. |
Chicken Necks (minced)Bone Meal Powder or | 700g (necks) or 114g (bone meal) | Chicken necks are ideal for calcium or bone meal powder can be used for the calcium. Increased calcium due to the lack of bones in chicken thighs. |
Egg Yolk | 8-10 yolks (approx. 160g) | Provides fat, biotin, and essential fatty acids for energy and development. |
Fish Oil (Salmon) | 7 capsules (~3.5g) | Provides omega-3 fatty acids for brain and skin health. |
Water or Broth | 2,100g | Adds moisture for a softer, easier-to-eat texture. |
Supplements
Supplement | Amount (grams) | Notes |
---|---|---|
Turkey Eggshell Powder (Calcium) | 150.5g | Provides calcium, important for bone development in kittens. |
Kompozycja Mineralów (Mineral Composition) | 150g | Ensures a balanced intake of essential minerals. |
Brewer's Yeast | 35g | Rich in B vitamins, supports coat health and vitality. |
Non-Iodized Salt | 9.31g | Provides sodium and chloride for electrolyte balance. |
Vitamin E | 305.5mg (456 IU) | Antioxidant, supports immune function and skin health. |
Taurine Powder | 3.5g | Essential for heart and eye health, critical for kittens' development. |
I am sous-viding the chicken parts with eggs and then adding the supplements afterwards, mixed in the water. I then leave 3 days worth of food out and freeze the rest. I would like your opinoon on the quality of this diet plan and for you to possibly point out any mistakes I may have made.
Adding a pic of my beauties :) Thank you!
