when zooming in with my mouse wheel, the further in i zoom the slower it zooms eventually it looks to be not zooming at all.

i'm very new to blender, and i was getting some practice in and i was having difficulties working on objects once i've scaled them down because i cant zoom in enough to see what i'm doing. Whenever i try to zoom in, the rate of zoom decreases the more i try to zoom to the point it looks like it's just stoped even when i'm still scrolling. how would i go about fixing this?
