Someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong.

Whenever I use a gun like the Tanto, it takes me 4-5 shots to kill but everyone against me kills me in 3 shots. It feels the same for the semi auto shotgun where I will trade a shot with someone and I will die and they won’t. Is there something I’m missing?
