might need to emergency drop a class but it’ll put me under 12 units

i messed up a midterm bad and i’m really scared of failing. they don’t offer cog sci 180 again next semester so i may need to late drop the class so it doesn’t drop my gpa. i’ve never failed a class before, so this is my first late drop. if i drop it’ll put me at 8 or 9 units and im scared it’ll affect my financial aid or prompt them to ask for their money back. does anyone know if this really happens or what might happen if i drop?
