Could WAR be better?
Im not asking this to piss anyone off, and if this type of stat already exists and im ignorant of it, i apologize, and i just spitballing here, but what if WAR took into account impactfull moments? Everyone likes the "sack" stat in NFL, but a sack on 1st down where the other team ends up continuing the drive means almost nothing, where a sack on 3rd down that stops a drive means a lot more.
WAR in baseball is all well and good, but if a dude hits 50 dingers, but 35 of them were in blowouts either way, it doesn't mean all that much to the outcome, he's just better than the average replacement guy at hitting bombs, and when you look at the numbers, it equates to "wins".
I would think that since so many people break down discussions of who was better for this award or that career, using WAR, it should matter where your rbis, xbh, dingers and stolen bases come from. The data is out there,I'm just not gonna be the guy to compile it.
Again, if this Stat already exists, or WAR takes this into account, I apologize.
