Scammed by delivery boy but got my money back!
Hi everyone! I’m new to Bangalore and recently moved from a PG to a flat. Since I shifted, I’ve been ordering a lot of things from Amazon and Meesho for my new place.
One day, while I was in the office, I got a call from a delivery guy saying he had come to deliver my Meesho order. Since I had been ordering so many things, I didn’t know exactly which one it was. When I asked if it was a COD order, he saw an opportunity to scam me. He said he had two COD parcels for me and asked me to pay ₹820 via GPay. Turns out, there was only one parcel, and it was prepaid! When I asked for product details or photos, he pretended to be too busy and said he had more deliveries to make. I was about to join a meeting, so I quickly sent him the money.
Then, he called again and said I owed another ₹380 for a parcel he had “forgotten.” That’s when I got suspicious. I asked my neighbor to check if there were any parcels at the ground floor. When I called him back and told him there was nothing, he cut the call and blocked me.
I didn’t let it go. I filed complaints with Meesho, Ecom Express, Axis Bank, and even a cybercrime report. The next day, I went to the delivery hub where he worked and spoke to his manager. The manager took it seriously, held back his salary, and promised I’d get my money back. Soon after, the delivery guy returned my ₹820 and begged me to tell his manager it was a misunderstanding. But his manager had already seen all the proof, so I don’t think it helped him much. Not sure if he got fired, but at least I got my money back.
Honestly, it wasn’t just about the money—it was the fact that I got scammed that really bothered me. Even if it was a small amount, the feeling of being tricked would’ve made it hard to sleep.
Stay alert, folks!
Edit: I admit I should’ve checked the app before paying, but here’s why I couldn’t:
1. He kept insisting he was in a hurry with many deliveries to complete.
2. My girlfriend also orders to my place when she’s out of station, so I wasn’t sure if it was her package.
3. Delivery guys often send a QR code for payment and leave the parcel when I’m not around, so it didn’t seem unusual.
4. I was in a meeting and didn’t have time to question him much.
Even with these reasons, I agree I should’ve been more careful—but that doesn’t justify him scamming me.
