Repeated Sob Stories from the Same Delivery Person – What Would You Do?
A while ago, I ordered food through Swiggy, and when the delivery person arrived, he told me a heartbreaking story about how his wife was in the hospital and he needed money urgently. Feeling sorry for him, I transferred a small amount of money to help. He thanked me and left, and I didn’t think much of it after that.
A few months later, I placed another order on Swiggy, and to my surprise, the same delivery person came to deliver my food. This time, he had a different story—he claimed that another family member had been injured and was hospitalized. He asked for money again. Recognizing him, I refused and showed him the UPI transaction from the first time, explaining that I had already helped him. He left after that, but I couldn’t shake off how strange the situation felt.
Then, just a few months later, the same delivery person showed up at my doorstep again with another sob story. This time, he said his son had injured his arm and was in the hospital, and once again, he requested money. At that point, I had had enough. I firmly said no and decided to report the issue to Swiggy support.
When Swiggy contacted him, he repeated the story about his son being hospitalized. Luckily, I still had the screenshot of the first transaction as proof, which I shared with Swiggy. They refunded me the amount from that incident, which I appreciated, but I’m left feeling uneasy.
What really bothers me is that this delivery person now knows where I live, and I can’t help but feel a bit scared. Has anyone else experienced something like this? How did you deal with it?
