AC Unity is still kinda of bad
I played Unity with high expectations and was a little disappointed. I saw several videos of gamers doing stealth kills in Unity, it seemed to be much better thanks to reshade mods and physics fixes.
But even using mods, the game's problems are still there. I don't know if it's a bug in my PC game but there's something wrong with this stealth.
Every time I try, I am detected almost immediately. I kill a guy and it seems like another one appears next to him. There are even times on rooftops where I kill a sniper and someone on another rooftop still sees it and his detection meter goes off. Not to mention that the Phantom Blade, even though it's a stealth weapon, it seems like enemies can still hear me using it even if I'm five meters away. I tried to get the best Stealth gear in the game in an attempt to improve on this, but it didn't even make a difference. It even seems to have gotten worse.
The combat is disappointing. During the Ezio games, I loved the kill streaks, where I could kill multiple enemies in a row, and I loved how that developed in the Kenway games and Rogue. It made me feel like a one-man army. In Unity this was forgotten and the combat got worse. I liked the human shield mechanic but they got rid of it in Unity, which sucks because those snipers are horrible to kill and have such a superhuman field of vision that it's annoying. If more than five enemies appear, I have to use smoke bombs nonstop to escape and I hate that. I don't like running away. If stealth goes wrong, I like to stay there and finish the job using absurd violence and I can't do that in Unity. Like Ezio, Connor, Edward and Shay, I felt invincible but like Arno, I felt weak, noob and always had to run away or spam smoke bombs to finish missions. I don't know if it's game bugs or if I'm just a noob but I wanted to say.
Regarding the setting, parkour and scenarios, I loved it. Paris is beautiful, I love exploring the houses and the parkour is the best in the franchise and I love how it has tunnels, the houses are often accessible and I really like seeing the highlights of the city.
History wise, I didn't like that. Arno is very meh. He had his father killed by Shay and they never developed that and it seems like that was dropped because that's totally forgotten.
He starts being a killer just for Elise but his goals, despite aligning with the Brotherhood, seem very selfish to me. I don't understand how it all ended for him.
He lost everything and became pessimistic, nihilistic and I still don't even understand if he returned to the Brotherhood or not. I'm pretty sure he and Elise would both be protagonists but Ubisoft's sexist work environment screwed that up.
Arno strikes me as a character who has Ezio's revenge aspect (and appearance), Connor's pessimistic closure, and Edward's main interest in a woman. He seems to me like a recycling of aspects that I partly like in other characters but Arno adapts all of this wrong.
Even with fixes and updates, Unity can still greatly displease those who enjoy combat and are easily frustrated in Stealth and who seek a certain optimism in the story.
