Interview tomorrow for a Singapore internship—worried about cost of living. Advice?
I’m a 21F from Argentina, and tomorrow I have an interview for an IT internship in Singapore. They said they’d pay me at least 1,000 SGD/month, but I’ve been talking to other interns who are already there, and they told me their salaries barely cover rent (so I guess it’s around 1500SGD but not more), so they end up needing financial help from their families.
I really want to be prepared for the interview and not just fall for something that sounds good, only to end up struggling financially later. So I have a few questions: 1. Is 1,000 SGD a normal salary for IT interns in Singapore? Or do some internships pay more? 2. How much does rent cost these days? I’d love to live alone in a studio apartment, but I know that’s probably way more expensive than sharing a place. 3. What’s the general cost of living like? (Food, transportation, etc.).
I don’t want to get sweet-talked into accepting an offer that’ll leave me broke and starving over there. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful!
Edit: I just had the interview, and they confirmed that it’s necessary to have savings or financial support from family to go there (the salary, those 1000 SGD, only covers at most 40%). Regarding the visa, it’s a visa that Latin America has with the Ministry of Trade of Singapore.
